It's a sordid affair that's shaken Russia. Vladimir Cheskidov, a 51-year-old man, has gone on trial for sequestering a 19-year-old woman for 14 years in a 'dungeon' at his home in Smolina, in Russia's Chelyabinsk region. The man lived with his mother, Valentina, 72, who faces up to 15 years in prison for aiding and abetting the kidnapping, according to Russian judicial authorities.

It all began 14 years ago, when the man abducted young Ekaterina and forcibly locked her up in his home. The victim was forced to clean, cook and look after her abuser's mother. She was also forced to have sexual intercourse with her assailant. The police discovered muzzles in the room where the young woman was locked up.
He engaged in torture sessions with hisvictim, beating her and forcing her to drink vodka. For 14 years, none of his family sought out to help the young woman.
Facing the judges, the torturer's mother denied all knowledge of Ekaterina's abduction and confinement.
She joined my son and lived like a queen. No one kept her. She lived with us of her own free will (...) All the doors of the house are open: you come in, you go out, it was like that every day.
Vladimir Cheskidov was declared fit to appear in court after being detained in a psychiatric hospital. The man claimed to have had a 'consensual' and 'loving' relationship with his victim.

Ekaterina was his sex slave for 14 years
Worse still, the individual is also under criminal investigation for the murder of another woman, Oksana, whom he sequestered in his home in 2011. The chopped-up remains of the victim, aged in her thirties, were found in his cellar, the Russian Investigative Committee said.
For her part, Ekaterina said she had been forced to help her executioner dismember Oksana's body and dispose of it.
