Genetic sexual attraction
Debby was adopted and grew up feeling incomplete. She wanted to meet her real family, so at age 35, she hired a private detective to locate her biological parents. When she finally met them, they told her about her half-brother Joe, who was much younger than her.
When Debby and Joe met, he was only 23 years old. Both say that it was love at first sight, even though they share the same blood, because they have the same father. They did not feel like they were doing anything wrong, because they didn't grow up together and don't feel like relatives, even though they are.
They experienced what is known as genetic sexual attraction, that is, they were strongly attracted to someone they're related to.
A forbidden relationship
Debby and Joe kept their relationship a secret for 10 years, for fear of what people might say. Four years ago, they decided to take it a step further and got married after confessing their romance to their families. They were tired of pretending and wanted to be able to lead a normal life.
In the US, their relationship is forbidden, but they were able get married because they don't have the same surname.
Their families ended up accepting their relationship and they are now happily married. Take a look at the video above for more on their story.
