Nightmare at the bank
Everything was going rather normally for Gill Gibson, 65, and her 63-year-old husband Ben Gibson. Until one day when Gill’s bank card stopped working while she was shopping. Seemingly confused she headed over to the bank to get a new bank card.
The same situation happened to Ben Gibson a week later. According to Daily Mail, the couple was left without any access to their financial resources for weeks. Not able to bear the situation anymore Ben rushed to the bank in order to seek answers and what he found left him stunned.
Declared dead
As Ben investigated the matter with the bank he was told that the reason they have withheld their money was, that his wife and he had passed away. Gill even received some letters of condolences for her husband's 'death' a month later, further infuriating the couple. As per Birmingham Live, Ben said:
The guy on the phone said, 'Excuse me sir but your wife has deceased'. I said, 'No she’s in the front room - do you want to speak to her?'
The situation took a turn for worse when the elderly couple was running out of their savings to spend. After confronting the bank and making them realise that there has been a very big mistake, they finally got back control of their accounts.
However, the process wasn't straightforward, after it had been established that the couple was indeed not dead, they had to wait a while before they had access to their accounts.
Ben further shared:
I'm furious about it. I dread to think how much time I've spent on this - hours and hours. It has been an absolute nightmare. We've had to rebuild our entire financial life and that's not easy. It's been a constant worry. It's horrible, and it's been going on for a long time
To compensate for the couple's distress, the bank paid them £300 on September 12 and another £200 on October 3.
