But what he saw on his receipt after paying for the famous meal surely made him think twice about going back later. An unusual situation that even prompted a reaction from the restaurant's management.
A mind-boggling extra on a sales receipt
Italy's Lake Como region is one of the country's most popular. A magnificent territory that has provided the beauty of certain scenes in the mythical Star Wars film saga, the area attracts tens of thousands of new visitors every year. But beware of the restaurants on site, as some have particularly outrageous business practices. An Italian tourist found out for himself.
The New York Post tells this story that will ruin your appetite. After ordering a classic sandwich with a friend, the man had the good sense to consult his receipt and made a shameful discovery. On a photograph of the piece of paper, one can read 'diviso da meta', which means a charge for... cutting his sandwich in half. The magic tax cost him an extra two euros on the bill!

Management's shaky justification
Posted on TripAdvisor, the photograph caused quite a stir, with comments pouring in about this dubious business practice. 'Incredible but true', commented the unlucky customer. Indeed, the tourist was shocked to see that one could pay an additional fee to cut a sandwich in half. The New York Post subsequently reported the reaction and, above all, the shaky justification of the restaurant's management, published in La Repubblica:
Extra requests have a cost (...) We had to use two plates instead of one, and the washing time is doubled, then two placemats. It wasn't just a grilled sandwich, there were fries inside too. It took us a long time to cut it in half.
