For Virginia Mellen, shaving her head will teach her son that a woman, whether she is a motheror not, doesn't need to have a particularstyle and can look as she wishes. She first shaved her head in high school and a few times in college as well, since the look made her feel comfortable, confident, and attractive. But now at 27, this mum asked herself several times whether it was a good idea to do it.

Apprehension as a mother
She asked herself questions like 'is this OK to do now that I’m a mom?' and 'what will people think now that I’m older?' But then she thought of her 15-month-old son. She wrote:
I want my son to grow up with a mom who doesn’t make decisions about her appearance based on what other people think. I want him to know that there is no particular way a mom or a woman is "supposed" to look.
Turns out, Virginia not the only one who has had this thought! Since she shared her photo on the Pantsuit Nation Facebook page, the mum has received pictures of other mothers who have shaved their heads or even dyed their hair!
More ways than one
And although she is only beginning her experience as a mum, Virginia is already showing impressive maturity, explaining there is no one way to be a mother! She said that her son is too young to comment on the look, but he does enjoy feeling it with his hands.
