A woman managed to naturally achieve an impressive weight loss in a year after doctors warned her it would be extremely difficult. Abigail Ames gained weight after being diagnosed with polycystic ovary syndrome which caused her to gain weight, acne, and excessive hair growth. Abigail was diagnosed with the illness in 2020, she was experiencing irregular periods, extreme fatigue, and insulin spikes.

She stopped exercising and saw an increase in sugar cravings.
Not all exercise is good exercise
Abigail was told that she has insulin resistance and was offered drugs to suppress her appetite to help her shed weight. Furthermore, she was told that extreme dieting by cutting out all carbs coupled with intense exercise would be the only way to achieve the weight she was hoping for. However, trying to follow doctors' recommendations did not go as planned. Her HIIT cardio sessions would immediately be followed by ravaging the fridge as her blood sugar crashed.
A change of approach
Abigail realised that she didn’t want to eliminate all the foods she loved but rather choose more macro-friendly versions and after researching she found that consistent moderate exercise worked for women with PCOS. As such she decided to eat whatever she liked within a calorie deficit and took up walking as her main method of exercise.
She acquired an under-the-desk treadmill for indoor walking coupled with long walks outside and made sure her calorie intake was in the required range. Three years later Abigail managed to drop over half her body weight and went from 16st to 8st.
This achievement brought about immense changes, she says:
For the first time, I’m buying clothes to fit my personality and not my body.
I’m not wearing neutral clothes, I don’t feel like I need to blend in. I feel happy and confident wearing colours and summer dresses. I feel like I’ve got control over my condition back - my acne has gone and I don’t feel anywhere near as tired anymore
