For one New York City resident, salvation came in the form of a bumble profile, and a match that would change her situation in a way she never could have imagined.
In February, Carrie Lee had been talking to a man she met on the dating app, Bumble, and the two planned on meeting for the first time shortly after. This was just as the seriousness of the coronavirus pandemic was starting to reveal itself in the United States.
The two had their first date on March 7 and it went amazingly. Starting off with lunch in New York City and continuing on to a fancy dinner the very same evening, the two spent hours together the first time they met. A second date was already on the books.
For this second date, she decided to make the two-hour drive out to Mystic, Connecticut to see where he lived. When she got back to New York she had a revelation that would change her life for the foreseeable future.
As New York's situation began to look bleaker, and the eventuality of a lockdown seeming imminent, she decided to pack up her life into her car, including two weeks worth of clothing and her cat named Jack and move to Mystic to be with her new man.
Luckily he had a bedroom to spare, plenty of space to share and most importantly, a willingness to shack up together despite only knowing each other for a short time. Possibly both realizing they didn't want to be alone during this uncertain time, they decided to dive in and see what happens!
During an interview on NPR Carrie stated:
The whole concept of what was happening in New York City, with the lines for the grocery store wrapping around the block, beginning to see people walking around in masks... the reality of it had begun to sunk in and I definitely just didn't want to be alone,
As far as her Instagram profile is concerned it looks like Carrie and Jack have been enjoying their time in Mystic and their new living situation.
Carrie continued on to say that the two new roommates are navigating this new situation together both having to make compromises when it comes to what to watch or what to eat and are continuing to get to know each other while trying to maintain the romance and excitement of a new relationship. After living together for almost a month now Carrie didn't state there were any troubles as of yet.
