A woman who was stabbed, duct-taped and buried by her husband managed to make a miraculous escape. Yong Sook An, 42, was kidnapped by her husband after the two had a fight about money, where the husband allegedly declared he would ‘rather kill her than give you my retirement money'. He has been charged with first-degree attempted murder and two other charges.

Technology to the rescue
A probable cause affidavit obtained by The Daily Beast reveals Young, a resident of Washington in the US, managed to use her Apple Watch to call the police after her husband tied her hands behind her back with duct tape. The 53-year-old culprit, Chase An, who is a veteran of the American Armed Forces, also duct taped his wife’s eyes, thighs and ankles and gagged her as well.
He then drove Yong to a secluded area in the woods where he stabbed her in the chest and buried her alive, the affidavit shows. Yong managed to dig herself out and ran through the woods before finding help. The victim was later found by the police near the shallow grave with fragments of Apple Watch stuck to the duct tape discovered at the scene (the husband had attempted destroying it).
‘Please no bail’
When police arrived at the scene, they reported that:
The hole appeared to be freshly dug. Outside the hole was a piece of duct tape. There was also extensive bruising to her legs, arms and head and her clothing and hair were covered in dirt.
The estranged husband has since been held in police custody with bail. Young Sook pleaded with the judge to keep her husband in jail as he was ‘extremely smart’ and could attempt to kill her again if he got out. In a statement delivered in court on her behalf, Young pleaded:
Please no bail. I am really afraid for my life. I just want to emphasize that I fear him so much and he will kill me again if he is out.
The couple lived at home with their two children aged 20 and 11.
