A dangerous ectopic pregnancy
Dr. Michael Narvey shared this incredible story on his TikTok account, where he posts many extraordinary medical cases. He begins his video by explaining that he thought he'd seen it all, but that this young woman's story surprised him. She went to hospital because she had been suffering from a particularly long menstrual period, 14 days long, even though she hadn't had her period for 49 days. The doctors performed an ultrasound, during which they discovered a foetus growing in her liver.
According to the Mayo Clinic, an ectopic pregnancy occurs when an embryo implants elsewhere than in the uterus. As the foetus grows, it causes the mother intense pain, even putting her life at risk.

Dr Narvey explains that this was the first time he had encountered this scenario. In the majority of ectopic pregnancies, the embryo has to be removed to save the mother's life. Unfortunately, this was the case for the young Canadian woman.
Hepatic pregnancies, as they are medically known, are extremely rare. According to Dr. Narvey, only 14 cases have ever been reported. According to J Emerg Trauma Shock, another 25-year-old woman succumbed to her hepatic pregnancy as a result of hemorrhage following embryo extraction.
