Woman uses bizarre technique to get her dream job

While people have been known do some pretty ingenious things to score a job with their dream company, not many people would take the route of sending in a resume on a cake. As reported by Yahoo News, a North Carolina resident did just that.

Karly Pavlinac Blackburn shared the story about her edible resume on her LinkedIn last week. She has been actively looking for a new job in product marketing, brand management, growth marketing and innovation. So when Nike’s Just Do it Day (JDI) came around, she decided to find a unique way to get her resume across: by printing out her resume on a cake and delivering it to Nike’s campus.

Sweet surprise for Nike’s Just Do it Day

Blackburn wrote in her post that she knew that Nike was having a mega celebration for its JDI Day, where superstars such as LeBron James, Colin Kaepernick and others would be present.

Even though Nike's Valiant Labs, where she wanted to land a position, was not hiring, she decided to find a way to let them know who she was. That's how she came up with her cake idea. She says in her post,

What better way than to send a cake to a big party.

She got to planning her cake delivery,

I found Albertsons Grocery Store made cakes with edible picture images on top and we all know Instacart delivers (longer story there, but for the sake of time I got it to work).

An Instacart delivery driver executed the cake delivery to Nike

Blackburn was helped by Instacart delivery driver Denise Baldwin, to get her sweet surprise across to Nike. Baldwin said to her,

Karly I know this is important to you, and I will do whatever IT takes to get this cake to where it needs to be.

Blackburn ended her post with a sweet note saying that regardless if she got the job at Nike or not, Denise telling her that she was inspired by her, was the best thing she heard that day.

She said,

At the end of the day it’s not about the cake at all. It is about making things happen and taking a chance outside of the box.
