1. Cost: As a purely aesthetic operation, liposuction cannot be funded by the NHS as restorative surgery. Depending on the area(s) to be treated, prices vary but include anesthesia care, surgery, and hospitalization:
-Liposuction of the buttocks: £1800
-Abdominal liposuction: £1300
-Liposuction of the thighs : £2200
-Liposuction of the knees: £900
-Liposuction of the face: £1300
These prices are estimates and represent an average. Depending on the surgeon, the clinic, and the number of operations the prices may be higher or lower.
2. Pain: Depending on the operation, the ability to withstand pain and the type of anesthesia performed by the surgeon, the pain felt after liposuction may vary from one individual to another. Local anesthesia lasts for 24 hours after the intervention and will therefore be less painful than under general anesthesia which stops its effects from the recovery room. In general, the pain peaks within 4 days after the operation, gradually fading over the next 4 weeks.
3. Results: Liposuction removes excess fat from the body. The surgeon "pumps" this excess fat out using cannulas. After having made small openings in the body with a scalpel, they insert the cannulas and suck the fat from different parts of the body. These surgeries are particularly tiring for the body but allow an optimal result within 6 months after the intervention: refined silhouette, slimmed-down body and more sculpted thighs, hips, belly and buttocks.
4. Side effects and risks: Particularly invasive, liposuction (like any surgical intervention, aesthetic or not) should not be undertaken lightly. The body is abused during the procedure, so aches can persist for long weeks after the procedure. Hematomas can quickly appear and the treated area can bruise deeply. Finally, swelling is normal in the days following the operation: the use of compression garments to support tissues and stimulate blood circulation is recommended as well as lymphatic massage sessions with a physiotherapist.
