Most of these piercing guns are made of plastic, which cannot usually be sterilised properly. This means that your odds of contracting a disease from these guns is multiplied according to how popular the place might be. Most places would wipe these guns with anti-bacterial wipes, and though its a good sanitation practice, it does not protect against all spreadable diseases.
Instead of the mall, experts advice people to visit a proper piercing parlour, and to get your body piercings done by a professionals.

- Professionals use surgical-grade needles to pierce your ears which translates to minimal damage and minimal pain, so these piercings heal easily with minimal discomfort. This is definitely not true in case of mall piercing, which can even cause lasting trauma to your ear lobes on top of causing a lot of pain and being more difficult to heal.
