Nutrient researchers from the University of California have come out with a new study that has found mangos to have extremely effective anti-aging properties. If consumed in sufficient quantities, mangos can reverse the effects of physical markings associated with aging.

The study in question investigated how the intake of Ataulfo mangos affected the development of facial wrinkles and erythema (redness of skin). Robert Hackman, a professor in the Department of Nutrition, explained that:
Mangos are rich in β-carotene and other carotenoids, along with several phenolic acids that may provide oxidant defence and photo-protection to the skin. The system we used to analyze wrinkles allowed us to not just visualize wrinkles, but to quantify and measure wrinkles [as well].
Two groups of healthy postmenopausal women with similar skin types were observed for a period of 16 weeks. One group was instructed to consume 85 grams of mangos while the other group consumed 250 grams of the same fruit four times per week. Photographic evidence was taken at weeks 0, 8 and 16 to quantify visible aging lines.
How effective are mangos in reducing the appearance of wrinkles?
Results found that the group of women to have consumed 85 grams of mangos four times a week had a drastic reduction in wrinkles by 23% in as little as two months. These same women saw a 20% reduction to wrinkles four months after analysis concluded. This came as no surprise to scientists given the mango's anti-inflammatory chemicals that help the body build collagen over time.
How much mango is too much mango?
Contrary to the intake value consumed by the first group of women, consuming 250 grams of mangos four times per week yielded adverse effects. Women who ate this much amount of mangos saw an increase in wrinkles over time. Scientists believe this to be caused by the high sugar content found in mangos.
So, although mangos are a delicious exotic fruit you should definitely get behind to keep that skin looking fresh, try not to go overboard with how much of it you eat!
