1. Product: The word rhassoul comes from Arabic 'rassala' which means to wash. It's a reddish-brown clay that has been extracted from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco. First the clay is extracted from the mountains then it gets washed, sun-dried, and broken into small chunks or powderised. The clay has a shelf life of 4-5 years. It's a 100% natural powder that has been used for many years to cleanse and soften skin and hair. The dried clay has a silky feel and contains provitamins A, C, and E and minerals such as iron, zinc, and magnesium. It's also known as Red Clay, Red Moroccan Clay, and Oxide Clay.
Clinical studies show that Rhassoul can increase skin elasticity, even skin tone, reduce blemishes and blackhead and reduce dry flaky skin. It's also extremely beneficial for the hair. It will clean the scalp whilst leaving it with extra volume and bounce.
2. Uses: There are several ways you can use rhassoul clay in your beauty routine. For example, it can be used as a daily cleanser, it can be mixed with other ingredients like honey, oils, oats to make a face mask, it can be mixed with argan oil as a conditioner to help restore hair and add shine or it can be used to substitute hair shampoo because it will add extra volume whilst cleaning the hair.
3. Side effects: Just like many products, the clay should not be overused. If overused it could cause your skin and hair to become dry. The clay shouldn't be used on colour-treated hair either otherwise it will cause hair breakage.
