2020 was the year when we got to know our partners, flatmates and family members, and the inside of our homes a little too well. We're not going to sugar coat it—being locked up inside for days and months on end has really taken a toll on our mental health. On the bright side, we've had to be extra creative in coming up with ways to keep ourselves busy and sane during these tough times.

As a result, 2020 will officially go down in history as the year we experimented with just about anything and everything short of giving ourselves a mullet, unless your name is Miley Cyrus, that is. While we're on the subject, all evidence may be pointing to the fact that mullets will be making a comeback in 2021, but cross my heart and hope to die, this is one trend we won't be following.

While we got really cozy at home, working in our PJs, making banana bread for days, binge watching all the latest Netflix series, and topping it all off with an exquisite homemade face mask, we have to admit that this year wasn't all bad. We'll even go as far as saying that it was beneficial on a lot of fronts. This year, we were finally able to make new habits that we aren't likely to give up anytime soon. Here is a sum up of our favourite ones.

Home workouts

When all gyms and yoga studios closed, and venturing outside for a run or a walk seemed like the most menacing thing, we thought we would have to say goodbye to all the hard work we had put in the past years to get in shape and feel great. That's when a magical thing happened: Instagram lives! Suddenly, we had basically free access to all types of workouts, and working out at home didn't seem so scary anymore! We tried yoga, pilates, Zumba, kickboxing, and the list goes on! Home workouts are great because they can be done on our own time, and we're not wasting time commuting or getting in line for the shower. Seriously, we may never go back to the gym.

Prolonged video chats with loved ones

Zoom was one of the most downloaded app of 2020, and it's no coincidence. The app gathers are more than 300 million participants each day. Between business meetings, after works with friends and Sunday roasts with the family, video chats really kept us connected this past year. Now that we got into the habits of speaking to each other through a screen, we must say that we are quite fond of it. Unfortunately, we don't always have time to visit our loved ones who live far away, and video chatting them is the next best thing.

Friday nights in

Gone are the days that we agree to a girls' night out when all we really want to do is stay home for a little self care. If there's one thing that this year has taught us, it's self-respect and personal boundaries. Because yes, we all could use a little more nights in to recharge our batteries.

Of course, we also experienced with other things that weren't all too successful, to say the least. We can now officially say that we'll never again go a month without washing our hair and we'll never again complain about the price of a salon haircut. Also, while we loved the time we spent making puzzles, we feel it's finally time for us to go out into the real world and have some face to face interactions (while physically distancing, of course).

While we're definitely ready to put this year (and hopefully this pandemic) behind us, we will be taking some of our new found hobbies and healthy habits with us into the new year.
