Whilst religiously reapplying moisturiser or upping the heaviness of your moisturiser will help repel winter skin to some degree, if you're still finding yourself with dull skin, try adding these ingredients known for their hydrating and protective qualities into your skincare regime:
Oat
Oats have amazing moisturising and anti-inflammatory properties when formulated into skincare products. Suitable for all skin types (and especially for those with sensitive skin), oat products, like cleansers, can reduce redness and tightness in the skin as well as help maintain a healthy skin barrier.
Ceramides
Ceramides are restorative lipids (fats) which help your skin to maintain its moisture levels. Gentle, protective, and nourishing, they are also suitable for all skin types (especially for those with rosacea), so try finding a moisturiser with ceramides during the winter months.
Glycerin / Hyaluronic acid
Hydration is key during the winter months when water more easily leaves our epidermis.Glycerin and hyaluronic acid are both humectants, meaning they attract water back into your skin, leaving you with a plump and dewy appearance. Just be sure to apply these ingredients to damp skin, otherwise, you might find yourself even more dehydrated than before!
Squalene Oil
If you lean on the dryer side, oils are your best friend at this time of year, adding back that missing glow. Squalene oil, a vegetable derivative of olive oil, is an excellent option to add to your skincare routine. This is because squalene is also naturally produced by humans to reinforce the skin barrier, making this oil suitable for all skin types. And, as well as its nourishing properties, it has the ability to make skin more elastic!
