McDonald’s has just had another major menu shake-up which saw the brand axing many holiday favourites. Along with the festive foods, McDonald’s also axed two fan favourite items: the Big Tasty burger and the potato mini waffles, leading to fans being very upset to see their favourite items go.

One distraught fan took to Twitter to express their disappointment saying,
McDonald’s taking the potato waffles off the breakfast menu has ruined my life.
Now, as per The Sun, in some good news for McDonald’s breakfast lovers, Aldi is offering a line of mini potato-waffles as a substitute for the fan-favourite discontinued McDonald’s mini waffles.
Aldi’s potato-waffles
While potato waffles are available in many stores, what made McDonald’s waffles so popular were their mini sizing. These were introduced only for a limited time as a substitute to hash browns and proved to be very popular with fans.
The potato waffles at Aldi are similar in size to McDonald’s though its taste might vary from McDonald's. Aldi’s replacement for the McDonald’s item is 454g of frozen Four Seasons Mini Hash Brown Waffles which cost 99p. McDonald's potato waffles were sold for £1.39, so Aldi's option is very well-priced.
Aldi’s McDonald’s dupe
As per the report, this is not the first time Aldi has introduced items which are dupe for McDonald’s food items, having earlier introduced a dupe for the legendary McDonald’s Big Mac.
As per Aldi, the instructions to prepare this mini-potato waffle at home are:
- Preheat your oven
- Layer mini hash brown waffles on a baking tray on the middle shelf for the time specified on the packet, or until golden yellow
- Turn once during cooking
