As reported by Hull Daily Mail, a mum from Bootle, Merseyside was left livid and shocked as she found a pencil inside her food from Burger King. To add insult to injury, she was allegedly told by the restaurant not to worry about her contaminated food.
Pencil inside Chicken Royale Burger
Leanne Daly, 41 wanted to order some food as a treat for herself and her sons on October 3, Monday. So, she ordered her food from the Burger King restaurant on Stanley Road in Bootle.
This was a restaurant she ordered food from often. She brought herself a Chicken Royale Burger and when her food arrived and her soon handed her the order, she felt something weird. When she investigated further, a pencil rolled out from inside it. She is quoted as saying,
My son passed me my burger, I had some and felt something weird. So I opened it up and a pencil rolled out. I thought 'what the hell is that' as it looked like an eyeliner.
Burger King tells customer not to worry
As per the report, Daly immediately let the restaurant know. The restaurant informed her that the pencil she found was a grease pencil that they use to mark burger wrappers. She says,
So straight away I called them up and asked for an explanation and told them I had something in my burger. I described what it looked like and she told me 'not to worry' as it was only a grease pencil they used to mark the burger wrappers
Daly was not satisfied with the response and the lack of apology. She suspected that it might have been a makeup pencil but according to the restaurant it couldn’t have been so, since there was only one woman on shift. She was then told to get a refund for her order online.
A spokesperson for Burger King commented on the matter later saying,
We apologise for the impact this incident has caused and have investigated the matter raised.
We want to re-iterate that Burger King UK strives to deliver the best customer experience and the highest-quality meals possible at all times. We will be working to ensure all necessary measures and staff training are reinforced to meet these standards.
