Burger King makes packaging change for a very important reason

With environmental concerns becoming a priority for many people, corporations are also taking the initiative to do their part in reducing environmental and food waste.

As reported by Hull Daily Mail, Burger King has just made the announcement that the company will be eliminating all single-use plastic lids on its drinks in a bid to reduce plastic usage and waste.

Burger King’s commitment to sustainability practices

Burger King predicts that eliminating single use plastic lids will remove 17 million plastic lids from circulation, saving more than 30,000kg of plastic from being wasted every year.

Earlier in 2019, Burger King had removed all non-biodegradable toys from their King Junior meals which saved an estimated 320 tonnes of single use plastic in a year. The current move is also in keeping with the company’s intention to have more sustainable practices when it comes to their packaging.

Burger King’s environmental targets

Burger King UK has launched a range of reusable and returnable packaging for drinks, burgers and sides to tackle single-use packaging and reduce waste.This launch is being tried out in 5 restaurants in east Anglia for five months. At the end of the trial period, the brand will determine a future course of action that would align with their long-term sustainability goals as a brand.

As per the brand’s statement, Burger King aims to have 100% of its packaging from renewable, recycled or certified sources by 2025. They also intend to recycle 100% of the packaging in their store in the future.
