If you want to have a zero-waste approach, you can keep the jar to store food, but what about the pickle juice? Well, it turns out that its acidity can be a real asset in many situations!
1. Tenderising meat
Is your meat a little too tough, but you have an empty pickle jar in the fridge? Use the juice to marinate beef, pork, or lamb: this will make it tender and give it a nice flavour.
2. Replacing vinegar
Pickle juice is sour, like vinegar, so you can use this liquid to make tasty vinaigrettes!
3. Enhancing the taste of pasta
Pickle juice brings out the taste of pasta: a surprising, but absolutely delicious combination!
4. Flavouring sauces
Barbecue sauce, ketchup, and mayonnaise already taste great, but if you want to spice up your dishes, add a teaspoon of pickle juice to your sauces and you'll be surprised…
5. Marinating vegetables
When you have vegetables that have been lying around in the fridge for a few weeks, you can peel them, cut them into sticks, and marinate them overnight in pickle juice: you'll then have delicious pickled vegetables to add to your salads!
