Lidl customer finds this inside her son's meal after he almost finished it: 'We all felt disgusted'

As much as international organisations try to persuade us that insects are a good source of protein and a way to fight hunger, and even though they are already a much-loved part of national cuisine in certain cultures, not many of us want to find living creatures in our food.

But this is what happened to Hannah and Tim, from Eastry, Kent, who were tucking into their dinner along with six-year-old son Louie when they discovered a nest of weevils inside their Lidl baked beans.

Although the child narrowly escaped consuming the unwanted delicacy, his parents have unknowingly already nibbled on it.

The family were left in shock

A family - Hannah and Tim, from Eastry, Kent -were left reeling in shockafter their six-year-old son Louie bit into Lidl baked beans and found bugs nesting inside the tin.

The couple, who did not want to give their surnames, made the sickening discovery while they were peacefully enjoying their dinner.

They found at least seven dead weevils - a type of beetle - inside the tin. Sadly, they only spotted the stomach-churning creatures after the parents had already consumed some of their dinner.

Hannah said:

We have been slightly put off baked beans, to say the least. We all felt disgusted, shocked and horrified.

She is now urging other Lidl shoppers to check their food before eating, as their beans came with a use-by date of November 24, 2024.

What did Lidl say?

The family were given a £15 Lidl voucher as an apology but they believe more needs to be done. They plead with the supermarket to recall the product bought from the Whitfield, Kent branch on March 27.

According to Hannah, Lidl promised to continue monitoring the situation. They insist on their high standards and no pest control issues raised from their supplier.

A spokesman for Lidl said bosses are carrying out a review and added:

We were very sorry to hear of this matter, as it is never our intention for a customer to be dissatisfied in any way. We are, therefore, disappointed if our expected high standards were not met on this occasion.
