One of the most popular sides for any kind of meal, is mashed potatoes. While most of you are used to making it at home, there is a huge chance that you might have been doing it wrong your whole life.
As reported by RSVP Live, celebrity chef Andrew Rudd dropped the real secret to making the best mashed potatoes ever.
The secret to the best mash
As per chef Andrew, the most important component of making flawless mashed potatoes, is time and texture. Contrary to what most of us do, the task of making mashed potatoes need not be left down to the last minute. In fact, according to the chef, you could be preparing your mashed potatoes a day in advance. The recipe by the chef is as follows,
You can prepare your mashed potatoes the day before Christmas as well.
Cook your potatoes as normal, if you have a ricer make sure you use it. If not, a regular masher will work.
A hand blender or a paddle are also great tools, my mam and dad used these for years.
Get a small saucepan and add in cream, milk, salt, pepper and nutmeg. Put the potato on the hob and gradually add that mix with spatula.
Texture is important
Prepping the mashed potatoes in advance means that not only are you able to focus more on it, you can also free up your time to do other things on the day of the meal. The chef says,
It is a great idea to cook the mash the day before because it is one less thing to do on the day.
Having great mashed potatoes comes down to the texture of the mash. Good mash will be smooth and not lumpy. As per the chef,
It should turn out beautiful and smooth. When you feel like you have got the right texture then you are ready to serve it.
