McDonald’s is usually in the news for its new menu additions or its limited time offerings, but in a move which has confused many of its customers, McDonald’s Australia has axed a soft drink from its menu.

As reported by 7News, popular food blogger Russ Eats revealed in his TikTok video last week that McDonald’s Australia has scrapped original Sprite altogether and replaced it with a sugar-free Sprite option.
Sprite no-sugar instead of original Sprite
Russ Eats captions his video with,

In the TikTok, the blogger heads to a McDonald’s drive-through and orders a Sprite. But his order that flashes on the screen reads as Sprite Zero, which is the no-sugar version of the drink.
He asks the McDonald’s employee,
Do you have a normal Sprite? That says Sprite Zero on the screen.
The employee then reveals that they do not sell original Sprite any more, and responds with,
We’ve only got Sprite no sugar, sorry.
The employee further states that McDonald’s is not going to be bringing original Sprite back.
Reactions to the move
7News quoted a McDonald’s spokesperson who confirmed the news and said,
McDonald’s Australia has recently moved to Sprite No Sugar across its restaurants nationwide.
We look forward to hearing customer feedback on the new beverage option.
The latest swap has left many fans angry and upset.
One fan expressed confusion at the decision saying,
Well that’s a head scratcher
A dejected fan commented,
McDonald’s sprite was the best drink
Another said,
What’s everyone gonna do to fix their hangover now? We need the little sugar rush
There were also some fans who appreciated the change.
One posted saying,
Sprite no sugar is 100 times better anyway.
Another comment read,
I’m type 1 diabetic and happy to see more sugar free softies. The amount of times I’ve asked for a no sugar one and been given one with sugar in it…
