Most of us are well-acquainted with the coffee incident at McDonald’s in the 90s. As per Reader’s Digest, a customer sued McDonald’s for serving her scalding hot coffee that gave her third degree burns.

As reported by Mashed, McDonald’s is now facing another coffee-rated lawsuit. If proven to be true, this case would once again put the spotlight on food safety practices in McDonald’s restaurants.
McDonald’s being sued over chemical-laced coffee
According to AL.Com, a Florida woman is suing McDonald’s for $13 million for serving her coffee which she alleges, contained chemicals. The lawsuit was filed in Houston County Circuit Court and the customer is seeking $3 million in compensatory damages and $10 million in punitive damages.
The customer in question, Sherry Head had ordered a caramel macchiato from the drive-thru window at McDonald’s on Ross Clark Circle in Dothan back in Dec. 21, 2020.
She was first told that the drink was unavailable but someone else in the back said that it was in fact ready to go. She was served her drink and on taking a sip, she experienced, as quoted in her lawsuit,
burning and numbing sensation in her mouth and throat
Head is suing for medical injuries due to the coffee
When Head reported it to the store, the manager allegedly screamed at the employees,
I told y’all you have to be more careful about that!
He did not engage with Heard further and on being requested by her to see the label of the chemical, the manager refused and shut her down.
As per the report by AL.Com, Head’s attorney say that she has injuries to her mouth, throat, oesophagus, stomach, digestive tract, and other internal organs as well suffering from mental anguish.
She has been diagnosed with scarring and narrowing in her throat as well as an assortment of other health issues, which might require surgery to resolve.
Gerry Murphy, McDonald’s owner/operator, responded to the lawsuit saying,
The health and safety of our customers and employees is always a top priority. Immediately upon learning of this concern, we conducted a thorough investigation to understand the facts.
