McDonald’s hit with complaint of mouse poo in customer's meal

It was bad enough when earlier last month McDonald’s served a 7-year-old customer dishcloth instead of their McDonald’s order, but now in some even more disturbing news, a McDonald’s customer in Perth, Australia has claimed that they found mouse poo in their McDonald’s meal box.

As reported by Yahoo News, the incident was recounted by Hannah Whittome, who is a Perth resident, on her TikTok @hannahwhittome. The video has now garnered a lot of attention with over 85,000+ views.

Woman finds mouse poo in her McDonald’s

Ms Whittome went to get McDonald's earlier last week and realised once she was almost done with her food that there was mouse poo in the box. She said,

We got our food and I was eating when I realised – I was almost done – that there was mouse poo in my food.

Obviously I was not very happy. It's not something you want in your lunch. It's disgusting.

She took photos of the contaminated food and showed it to the manager at McDonald’s, who she found, did not address the matter adequately. Ms Whittome was offered more food, which she declined because of ‘obvious reasons.’ She later emailed McDonald’s with her complaint and also called the state health department as per her follow-up video.

McDonald’s response to the poo complaint

Food contamination by pests such as rats and mice is a very serious issue and could have grave consequences for the health and safety of consumers. McDonald's has provided a statement to Yahoo New Australia about the matter, where they state that they are aware of the issue and are investigating it with the restaurant in question.

A McDonald's spokesperson said,

McDonald’s takes food and drink safety extremely seriously. Our restaurants follow strict cleaning, sanitisation, quality control and hygiene procedures, at all times.

We have spoken with the customer to express our disappointment with her experience and to offer vouchers for future visits. We are working with the restaurant to investigate this further.
