It is not fresh news that the ice cream machine does not always seem to be working. Despite the huge potential the ice creams have, McDonald’s isn’t consistently able to sell ice creams. There are Twitter wars on this, as customers are said to have so many questions regarding the franchisees that have McBroken appliances. The world views this as a major glitch from the chain's side. And there are some problems that technology or an app haven't cracked, this is one. Ask any employee, and they’ll tell you the appliance just isn’t working, time and again. So there is no good way to be content with a cold treat, at any given point of the year, from Christmas to New Year, without having questions. Filmmaker Johnny Harris even made a documentary on this popular question. Here is the reason.
Reasons why McDonald’s ice cream machine is broken
There’s nothing like heading to McDonald’s to order a delicious McFlurry. But given that their machine is always broken, McD is infamous for making news about the lack of consistency in their food. And the fast-food chain does not provide the service featured in its menu. The key reason that Harris uncovered why ice cream devices are broken is because of the hours of cleaning and maintenance. The appliances take hours to clean and sanitize, due to which McDonald’s hasn’t been able to make the right method to like serve its customers. This issue runs round the clock, January to December.
McDonald’s X Taylor Company
McDonald’s has an ongoing partnership with Taylor Company which makes its ice cream machines. It is known that Taylor Company makes ice cream machines for so many other big restaurants, but it is just the McDonald’s machines that are broken. This is because Taylor makes an exclusive custom-made machine for McD known as the C602 Model. And no credit to this model as it prevents them from serving real food featured on the menu. And this model has a long sterilization process to maintain hygiene. The machine cleans itself, and the employees don’t have a role in the process. This self-cleaning apparatus is the real reason you don’t end up getting the soft serve food you want.
This does not happen at other restaurants as the process to clean is done by its employees, as Harris observed. This lack of ice cream affects the way the world views McDonald's and is said to cause a lot of outrage on Twitter, as most people could use some ice cream on certain days.
McDonald’s new machines
Now, McDonald’s is slowly venturing into partnering with other companies that make soft serve appliances. With Carpigiani machines on board, things are looking better for McDonald’s. The problem is with fixing it fast when the McFlurry machine is McBroken. Local technicians can fix Taylor machines, whereas Carpigiani is an Italian brand, and extra or broken parts, needs to come from Italy. So, because of this, McDonald’s still prefer using Taylor Company machines. And the world views this as a fixable problem for most franchisees. From January to Christmas in December, their device is out of order and not in the state of use or service most of the time.
McDonald’s and Kytch
For many years, McDonald’s made news of trying to invent a device through Kytch that could fix these infamous broken machines. And they partnered with Kytch to hack the ice cream machines and fix the glitches. But things were in vain, as this well-featured partnership with Kytch proved unsuccessful. And now, McDonald's seems to be back to square one without Kytch. And without similar apps or innovative items, McDonald's cannot keep its customers' content.
Hopefully, McD can invent some creative app that will hack the system. And not let the efforts by Kytch be wasted and this issue fades from all views.
