While eating fast-food, particularly from established restaurants like McDonald’s, the only surprise you expect to find are the good kind: maybe a surprise extra order of fries, or super deals for Christmas day or other holidays. Imagine ordering your Big Mac or hash browns and looking forward to eat it, only to be confronted by nasty surprises inside that leaves you traumatised by fast-food for life?

Facts remain that such complaints have surfaced time-and-time again against fast-food restaurants such as Burger King, KFC, and of course McDonald's which is one of the largest fast-food chain in the world. Fast-food restaurant customers over the years, have claimed to find shocking things inside their food, ranging from the disgusting to downright horrifying, like condom, rats and even band aid.

McDonald’s mouldy ice-cream tray

Videos of McDonald’s extremely filthy ice-cream trays caused widespread disgust and furore in equal measure among people when an employee shared videos of the unsanitary mess that usually stays hidden from view. The man's video had customers of McDonald's ice-cream all over the world, just wishing they did not know better.

McDonald’s coffee with dead mouse

As reported by CBC, a Fredericton customer, Ron Morais, said that he opened the lid of his McDonald’s cup to just take the last sip of his coffee only to get the shock of his life as a big dead mouse lay on the bottom of his cup. Unfortunately, this was not the last time a customer claimed to find mouse or other pests in McDonald's food.

Bloody band-aid inside McDonald’s burger

Can you imagine eating a Big Mac only to find a mouthful of disgusting band aid? As reported by Los Angeles Times, a women Charlsie Kelly brought a hamburger from McDonald’s one seemingly ordinary day, and started eating it only to make the most horrifying discovery of her life: a bloody band-aid in her burger!

The facts reported by the customer led to her being awarded $5,348 over a lawsuit she filed against the restaurant's really huge oversight.

Chemicals in coffee

A Florida woman sued McDonald’s for $13 million for serving her coffee which she alleges, contained chemicals that caused her severe health complications. Sherry Head had ordered a caramel macchiato and she got a, ‘burning and numbing sensation in her mouth and throat,’ after drinking it.

Head’s attorney say that she got injured in her mouth, throat, oesophagus, stomach, digestive tract, and other internal organs and really suffered from mental anguish.

Flies and maggots in Double Cheeseburger

A McDonald’s customer in West Midlands heard a buzzing sound, which she thought was just coming from headphones. But to her utter horror, the sound didn't come from there at all. When she opened her Double Cheeseburger, a fly flew out from it and further inspection revealed big maggots crawling inside the sandwich she was about to eat. The manager of the chain was contacted who said investigations were ongoing.

A fried-chicken head in box of McNuggets

A Newport woman got the shock of her life when her box of McDonald’s nuggets came with a whole fried chicken head, complete with beak, eyes and chicken comb. She said that the nasty find was sufficient to really turn her away from eating at McDonald’s restaurants for the foreseeable future.

McDonald’s ketchup dispenser filled with maggots

A mother wanted to buy her daughter a McDonald’s meal that went horribly wrong when her daughter went up to the ketchup dispenser for some BBQ sauce. In a nightmarishly disgusting scenario, the schoolgirl saw the dispenser filled up with ‘up to 40 disgusting flies and maggots.’ The woman also shared videos of it so that other customers from the chain could also be in the know about the disgusting truth.

Shards of glass

As reported by Philly Mag, aHappy Meal that was purchased for the 4-year-old child in the family came with shards of glass inside. The customer said that an employee at that the restaurant told her that the chain was broken into the night before and probably the shards of glass got into the Happy Meal boxes that way. Fortunately, no one was harmed in this incident, and as per the regional manager, all contaminated boxes were thrown away.

A dishcloth instead of a sandwich

This one is a real head-scratcher! Martin Holmes, a dad, handed each family member their McDonald's orders. The man noticed something bizarre when he was about the give his 7-year-old his chicken wrap. Instead of the McDonald’s Chicken Wrap, the man discovered that the sealed new McDonald's box contained a dishcloth! Yuck! The family contacted the manager immediately and the chain apologised for the mishap.

Selling food past best-before dates

The Sun reported that a McDonald’s restaurant in the UK was found selling thousands of items a day including frozen chicken and fries using food which were more than a month past their best before dates. Not only is this disgusting on a whole new level, but it could also be a really serious public health hazard since old expired food is deemed unfit to eat by health authorities.
