Again, even if the refrigerator has become one of the most essential and frequently used electronic appliance in our homes, considering we use it to store foods and groceries, we might be using it the wrong way. First of all, many of us are unaware of simple fridge hacks to save money, plus we have been storing things wrong, like keeping eggs in the fridge door.
Now, in a report by Metro, turns out that not only should you refrain from storing eggs that way, you should also stop storing milk on the fridge door. Here's the reason why experts advice against this.
The correct place to store milk
Even though the fridge door is the most common place for many of us to store milk, it is probably the worst spot to ensure longevity of milk. This is because the fridge door is also the least cool part of the refrigerator. This means that the milk would be better off in some other spot of the fridge where the temperature is cooler.
Food safety worker Theresa Keane told Metro,
Storing milk in the allocated area in the fridge door is fine so long as the fridge is holding the correct temperature that is between 0 and 5c
If you find that your fridge door is able to provide a temperature cool enough, you can continue to store milk on your fridge door as per usual. If not, it might be time to switch up your fridge storage scheme.

How to properly store other refrigerated items
Another thing you must pay attention to while stocking up your fridge, is the risk of food contamination. The expert shares some tips on how to ensure that you can best avoid cross-contamination between raw and read-to-eat foods. They state,
Regardless of whether or not they are chilled, we must circumvent the mixing of raw and ready to eat foods.
Raw foods like raw meat and fish should be stored on the bottom of the fridge in covered containers to avoid biological cross contamination and the dripping of blood.
When it comes to vegetable, here's what the expert has to say,
Raw vegetables that may have soil still attached should be washed dried and also kept in a covered container and always above raw meat and fish.
The expert also advises that ensuring storage of 'loose foods' in lidded containers is in general a good idea, since it can prolong their shelf life.
