Viral butter and chocolate combo on TikTok
It all started when a France-based American mom @isabellebertolami shared how French children like to eat baguettes with a stick of butter and chocolate slab sandwiched inside. Her caption states,
French kids don’t have an after school snack…they have a gouter!
She then shows herself cutting into a fresh baguette and then putting a tablet of chocolate and a stick of butter inside to create a sandwich-dessert of sorts. It quickly caught on, with people loving the simplicity of it while enjoying the refreshing take on an after-school snack.
A different food TikToker @onbooudespates has taken this one step further by completely foregoing the bread. They has been sharing videos of them eating straight-up sticks of butter with chocolate. And they are clearly not being shy when it comes to the quantity that they are consuming.

Reactions to the butter and chocolate-eating videos
While eating copious amount of butter with chocolate has not been a hit with most viewers, as mentioned above, people are loving the French version of an after-school snack with choclate and butter sandwiched inside a baguette.
One helpful commenter pointed out that the TikToker's caption was flawed since 'gouter' itself translates to after-school snack. They wrote,
gouter is an after school snack thats literally what it is. my au pair kid would scream at me if i didnt bring him gouter immediately at school
Another viewer left a comment of similar lines saying,
This is the literal definition of an after school snack
To this, the mom responded saying,
It’s just a playful way to show what an afterschool snack looks like in France and teach a French word
Many viewers wanted to try the snack. One quipped,
I want to be a French school child
Another wrote,
My husband still has this as a snack before dinner. oui oui oui!
