With inflation being such a consequential issue today, it seems that anyone complaining about their grocery bill should not come as a surprise. But, a Tweet shared by Representative Stefani Lord, where she posted a photo of her Costco receipt, has taken the Internet by storm. Here's why!
Representative Tweets eye-watering high Costco bill
The Tweet read,
Thanks, Joe Biden! $799.38 for ONE full cart at Costco with 58 items and only 9 non-food items like paper towels, plastic bags, trash bags, and razors.
Along with it, the politician also attached a photo of her Costco bill that showed a grand total of almost $800.
With Costco being one of the most popular supermarkets to buy products and commodities in huge quantities, which of course, come with an adequately big price tag, people were not that easily swayed by her argument.
People have pointed out that it is difficult to assess just how expensive things are at Costco without an invoice accounting for all products purchased under the receipt demonstrated.
So even if most people would probably agree that food prices have indeed risen in response to inflation, this was probably not the best evidence to be able to withstand public scrutiny.

Reactions to the Tweet
Some people pointed out that the Tweet was missing crucial information needed to properly contextualise the situation. One such post reads,
I think context is required here. If you buy 40 packs of fillet steak it would easily get to that figure depending on weight. Just to state 'items' means nothing.
Other people pointed out that buying bulk items at Costco can indeed push prices up, but that's to be expected. One comment states,
That's an average of $13.5 per item. That's exactly what you would expect at Costco buying items in bulk. Is this your first time there?
Another person chimed in,
You are buying everything in large quantity....tf do you expect...that 700 will last you a 2 weeks minimum
