Pet owners shocked to find out many common household foods including grapes, are toxic to dogs

Getting a dog might seem like a fun idea but it also comes with its fair share of responsibility. Being ignorant of your duties and responsibility as a pet owner could result in a massive fine for this simple mistake as a dog parent. If you are thinking of getting a dog, you should also be aware of their health and nutrition needs.

But turns out a lot of us are still ignorant about many fundamental aspects of pet care. For example, many cat owners were shocked to find out that many benign-looking houseplants are toxic to cats. Now, in a TikTok, experts at Upper Canada Animal Hospital have revealed a list of commonly found items in every pantry that are actually toxic to dogs.

Household foods to keep away from dogs

The TikTok video by the hospital has gone viral due to its shocking information. In the video, a staff asks vets working in the hospital to name one thing that's toxic to dogs. The list given by various health professionals have left people reeling.

The foods mentioned as toxic to dogs includes: ketchup, garlic, onion, avocados, grapes as well as chocolates and gum. One vet also named the common household medicine Ibuprofen as being toxic to dogs as well.

The caption to the video encourages dog owners to do adequate research before introducing any new foods to their pets.
