Right way to store sliced bread
The subject of storing bread is always a dicey one because everyone eats it, and has a preferred method of storing it. But the real question is: have you been storing sliced bread super wrong this whole time? Well, let's find out.
Sliced bread is a kitchen staple owing to the wide variety of uses it has. At the same time, we all know how easy it to forget about it for a day or two, and then finding out that the bread already has mould, making it inedible.
Allrecipes reported how they inquired about this issue with one of the largest sliced bread companies, Wonder Bread, in order to find out once and for all, the best way to keep sliced bread fresh.
How long does sliced bread last?
Haley Benson, Wonder Bread’s Senior Bakery Scientist, wrote to Allrecipes saying,
The best thing you can do to prolong the shelf life of your bread is to keep it in a cool, dry place – like a bread box or pantry – and of course, you want to make sure the bag is properly sealed
Even though a bread box is not mandatory for proper storage, it can be very useful to minimise risks, since, as Benson explains,
A bread box is a controlled, dark, dry environment that ensures freshness. With a bread box, there are no risks of added humidity or spills on a counter in the kitchen, etc.
As per the report, properly sealed and stored sliced bread should last you anywhere between 5 to 7 days.
