Watch out for these signs
Most women experience bloating at the time of their month because of fluctuations in hormones, but a lot of dietary fibre can cause gas and bloating. Sammie confirmed that there several causes for bloating. It might be gas produced by our gut microbes, it could just be how much food or liquid you've consumed, or it could just be constipation. However, the following three signs are when the dietitian said bloating shouldn’t be considered normal.
Continuous Bloating - if your bloating is continuous and has started affecting your day-to-day life, it might be more than just the usual causes for it.
Painful Bloating – While slight pain or discomfort is expected to occur every time you feel bloated, excessive pain can mean other issues as well.
Excessive Bloating – Your bloating may not be continuous; however, it may still occur more frequently than the regular.
Sammie added:
It’s not something you should have to put up with, and the good news is that there are many strategies available to help alleviate it.
Why is not normal bloating harmful?
If you experience any of the aforementioned signs of bloating, it could be an indicator of an underlying health issue at the root of bloating. For instance, food intolerance or irritable bowel syndrome may explain the reason behind your bloating. In very rare cases, excessive bloating when linked with symptoms like pain, altered toilet habits, blood in poo, or unintended weight loss could also be a sign of bowel cancer.
