And now, as reported by Food&Wine, Google has just unveiled its list of the top recipe searches for the past year 2022 and there are a couple of surprises here.
The 'searches that defined the past year'
The list of searches shared by Google are not the top searches in each category, rather these have been termed ‘the trillions of searches that defined the past year’ in the United States, which determined the wave of trends among people. So, these searches are less about popularity alone but more about the most significant sustained spike in search over a period of time.

In the category of the top trendiest recipes of 2022, here are the top 10 winners,
- Sugo
- Cincinnati chili

TikTok of course had a big impact on food trends taking over. As per Google, the top TikTok-inspired recipe searches included ‘cinnamon roll,’ followed by ‘pink sauce,’ ‘grinder sandwich,’ ‘green goddess salad,’ ‘cowboy caviar,’ ‘marry me chicken,’ ‘salmon rice bowl,’ ‘pot roast,’ ‘Mexican rice, and ‘crab rangoon.’
‘Aperol spritz,’ was the top search in the alcoholic beverage department, while as in the case of data from Uber Eats customer orders, there has been a steady increase in interest in non-alcoholic drinks, with ‘non-alcoholic rum’ topping the list.
