According to dietician and nutritionist Vanessa Rissetto, turmeric is perfect for treating migraines.
More studies still need to be done’ but ‘its anti-inflammatory properties may be beneficial in preventing migraines.
Be careful not to overuse
The dietician recommends three teaspoons per day (between 400 and 600 milligrams) of turmeric for healing. But it shouldn't be abused. A 2007 study conducted by researchers at the University of Minnesota showed that the benefits of this plant on health are limited since the body has a hard time absorbing it. In addition, too large a dose of turmeric can cause kidney stones, acid reflux, diarrhoea and gas.
If you are suffering from migraines, you should always consult your doctor about any treatment.
Turmeric latte
Ingredients:
- 2 cups almond milk (500 ml)
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tbsp maple or agave syrup
Recipe:
- Pour the milk into a saucepan and cook over high heat until it’s hot, but don’t bring it to a boil.
- Remove from the heat and add the rest of the ingredients. Stir and try the milk, add more milk, turmeric, cinnamon or syrup if needed.
- We used a milk frother to get a better texture, but it’s optional. You can also blend the hot milk with the rest of the ingredients in a blender if you want.
