Here are some ways you can prevent maggots and fruit flies including a simple hack with easily available household products.

Prevention is better than cure

• Ensure that you periodically clean your bin when it is emptied and it is regularly disinfected. This is especially important in the aftermath of a maggot infestation. Using boiling water is also advisable for cleaning in such cases.
• Try not to place your bins in any spot that receives too much sunlight since warm conditions are known to aid in the growth of maggots and fruit flies.
• Do not chuck in food items randomly and always bag items securely before binning them.
• Always keep your bin properly closed.

Bread and vinegar hack

Express recently reported a genius but simple food item hack which can prevent maggots and fruit flies from your wheelie bins. Apparently, all you need for this one is bread and vinegar which makes this decidedly cheap and the easy to implement.

The hack was shared by the fans of social media influencer and cleaning pro, Mrs. Hinch. The solution was offered by her fans in response to a question on a Facebook group.
