As mentioned in a report by Business Insider, the first recipient of Chipotle’s Celebrity Card was Ozzy Osbourne in 2003 because he provided a lot of publicity and attention to the brand. Since then, Celebrity Cards have been gifted by Chipotle to noteworthy fans, influencers or celebrities who have celebrated the brand and hyped up its products.
How to get the Chipotle Celebrity Card?
According to Business Insider, this card enables the cardholder to enjoy free Chipotle items for a specified period of time. There is no clarity on who qualifies for the Celebrity Card, except that it is Chipotle that makes the decision to grant the card or not.
Chipotle’s Celebrity Card came into the news for a very good reason earlier this month when musician Diplo used his Chipotle Celebrity Card in order to purchase the meals of the 100 people in line after him, at a Chipotle chain. He shared this on his TikTok account which reignited the conversation on this card.
The existence of the Celebrity Card has had mixed reactions from people. While in the case of Diplo, people have celebrated him using his card as a generous act, according to a report by Daily Dot, this was not the case a couple of months ago when Olivia Rodrigo’s old post about receiving a Chipotle Celebrity Card went viral. It created an outpouring of negative reactions against celebrities not having to pay for their food.
Other food chains have similar cards as well
Public opinion notwithstanding, celebrities continue to reap the benefits of their fame. There are many other chain restaurant companies which offer membership cards with similar benefits. Some examples are the McDonald’s McGold Card which according to McDonald's offers free food at their restaurants for life and Subway’s Gold and Black Card, which as per this report by Newsweek, is gifted only to influencers and celebrities.
