As reported by Delish, there is a pasta sauce recipe which is easy enough that anyone can make it at home, and so delicious that it could most definitely be the best red pasta sauce ever. This 3 ingredient pasta sauce recipe is by Marcella Hazan, who was an Italian cookbook writer credited with teaching food lovers around the world about Italian food and dining.
Hazan’s red sauce for pasta
As per the report, Hazan’s pasta sauce recipe is not the most authentic one since it was adapted for the cooking to be finished in under an hour. But even with the simplicity of the ingredients and the convenience of the cook time, this sauce packs in all the flavours and essence of Italian cuisine.
Ingredients
- 28-ounce can of whole peeled tomatoes
- 5 tablespoons of butter
- Peeled and halved onion
- Salt
Recipe for red pasta sauce
- Take a deep pot and combine all the ingredients inside the pot and put it to simmer. Add a pinch of salt.
- Once the tomatoes are soft, break them up. Let everything cook for 45 minutes.
- Add salt to taste and take out the onion. The sauce should have a velvety consistency. Add more butter if you want to increase the silkiness of the sauce.
- Boil pasta and toss it in the sauce. Add fresh basil, fresh-ground pepper and serve.
For added flavour, you can also add garlic cloves along with onion when you cook the sauce.
