TikTok account @bootstheorangecat posted a video of them before and after finding out the history of chainsaws. The video is captioned,

The video ends with the creator face frowned quizzically. The video seems to have struck a chord with the audience, having been viewed more than 90,000 times.
One horrified viewer writes after finding out the truth,

This is why chainsaws were first invented
The prototype for the mechanised chainsaws that we use today for timber was first invented in order to be used on women during childbirth during the 18th century.
As per Pharmacy Times, during the 1800s, chainsaws were used for conducting the surgical procedure of symphysiotomies, during difficult births, where the joint above the vulva is sawed off to widen the pelvis so that childbirth could occur.
The report describes the procedure as such,
During this procedure, the pubic symphysis, which is a joint above the vulva covered and connected by cartilage and reinforced by ligaments and tendons, is severed to widen the pelvis and make the childbirth process a bit more likely to occur.
After this horrifying info, most of us will definitely not be looking at chainsaws the same way again!
