Instagram influencer Amanda who posts as @projectyourbest showed how the satin or elastic loops can help maintain your clothes long-term.
She asked her followers in a reel:

She pretended to begin to cut the satin loop next to the spaghetti strap of her dress before saying:
Don’t. Here’s why.
According to the influencer, hanging loops aren't just for display in shops - they help you store your garment properly at home too.
Keep your dresses in shape
Items made of delicate or stretch fabric can develop damage when their weight rests only on the straps. It is recommended to adjust the straps so that most of the weight is supported by the hanging loops instead.
Amanda demonstrated her hack by loosening the adjustable strap of her dress on a hanger so it fell at the same length as the hanging loop. The loop became tauter.
There was also no longer tension solely on the strap. The weight of the dress was dispersed more evenly with the additional support of the loop.
The Instagrammer added:
If straps aren’t adjustable, you can either take the strap off the hanger or shorten the hanging loop by double or triple wrapping [it].
She looped the satin around the hanger to make it shorterand a similar length to the strap, adding that you could also then hook the loops onto the extra holding features typically found on plastic hangers.

Amanda also addressed a solution for the common reasons why people often remove the loops: being uncomfortable or peeking out of necklines.
She suggested:
To hide the loops while wearing the item, simply use a tiny safety pin or fashion tape to keep them tucked out of sight.
One of the users commented on the post and shared a smart alternative to it:
I cut them off, then throw the bottom of the dress over the hanger so the straps aren’t holding the whole weight.
