Dumped in a shopping cart
PetSmart employee couldn’t believe her eyes when she spotted something rattling around in a stray shopping cart outside the store. As they got closer, a dog lifted its head and gave a gentle bark. To the worker’s heartbreak, the pooch seemed in pain and was in desperate need of emergency care.
The kind-hearted woman believed that the pup sat in the cart for nearly 30 minutes before anyone noticed it. She didn’t waste any time and reached out for support.
Much-needed help
According to Chrissy Elder, the founder of Forgotten, Now Family Rescue, they were contacted by a PetSmart employee via Facebook and asked for advice regarding the injured dog.
Luckily, she and her team were able to help. They picked up this 3-years-old pit bull mix, who they named Monroe, and rushed her to the vet.
The charity wrote on Instagram:
Monroe underwent uterus prolapse repair and then the vaginal tissue would not stay in so she required vaginal reconstruction. This poor dog was used to heavy breed to the point her body was falling apart. Her days of being someone’s cash cow ended in that shopping cart.
After multiple complex surgeries to fix her wounds, the pup was able to 'see her turning point' and heal 'physically and emotionally'. Despite the trauma and all of the ordeal, she is doing 'better than ever'.
The charity added:
Monroe used to have no clue how to play, now she runs beside her friends confidently. Monroe would love to find her furever now!
She’s not expected to need further care. She should live a very normal, healthy life.
Hope for a happy home
Monroe is now on the lookout for a loving family. She is currently living at a foster home until she finds the forever one.
Elder noted that though the tough pup has been through so much, she’s 'a lovable gal' with nothing but gratitude.
She commented:
Monroe is the sweetest. She’s never met anyone she didn't fall in love with immediately. It blows my mind, since everyone failed her.
