Everything about cat behaviour is enigmatic, including their butts. The backsides get put right into our faces when we least expect it. And though these 'rude' acts are performed with cat-style dignity and grace, they might not always be the part of the body we want to pet or talk to. Here is what your feline tries to tell you when you get a close-up of their unmentionables.

It is simply a cat etiquette
Pam Johnson-Bennett, author and owner of Cat Behaviour Associates and a certified cat behaviour consultant, tells Daily Paws that flashing the rear end is a natural part of communication in a cat's world. It’s a way to say hello and invite you to a conversation. Friendly cats approach humans and other animals with raised tails.
If your cat is always sticking his butt in your face, it means you've raised one polite kitty.
It is a sign of trust
Cats don’t take exposing their private parts lightly. So, if they go for it, they trust you. When a cat presents his tail to you, the pet puts itself in a vulnerable position, according to Paw Tracks.
In the wild, cats are always alert, watching over their territory for potential prey or a potential threat, explains Johnson-Bennett. When cats are in a safe place with those they trust, they tend to close their eyes and might even turn their back to you - the ultimate sign of trust.
It is a call for affection
Some cats will flash their rear end when they want to be petted, and they are clever enough to know that the move will grab your attention.
Did you notice how friendly felines are when they throw their butt-in-the-face act? It’s a little backwards for us as we love their cute faces more than their cure-back parts. But in a cat's world, the butt actions weigh a lot more.
Give your feline some love while you are allowed to. Cats have a short attention span. They are likely to turn their face on you within minutes to show they’re done with your affection.
What if I don’t want my cat’s butt in my face?
Some may say that if you really love your cat, there can never be too much butt in your face. Most owners are happy to accept their pets with all their perks. But if the rear end affection seeking is not your kind of thing, consider gently repositioning the feline each time they are onto it again. Don't show that their behaviour displeases you and never fail to give your furry enigma all the love it deserves.
