You surely come across many homeless dogs who are adopted into happy families on the internet. Unfortunately, not every dog at the shelter has the same fate. Some dogs spend their entire lives at the rescue centre. However, due to the rising population, many shelterseuthanise their canine residents. These two pups were scheduled to be euthanised as well.

Nobody wanted them
Meet Kala and her ‘shelter sister’ Kiera. Kiera, a 15-month-old black and white boxer mix and Kala, an 11-month-old tanned crossbreed pooch, had been residents of the kennel for quite some time. The pooches used to watch and wait as countless potential adopters would walk past their cages without taking them home.
Three hours before their euthanasia, the shelter worker took a photo of the pair that would unknowingly save their lives. In the photo, you can see Kiera being hugged fiercely by Kala with a hopeful look on their faces. The shelter worker then posted the picture on Facebook with the caption:
I’m Kala. This is Keira. We’re so scared in here. The people working in the shelters see how scared we are but just told each other that today is our deadline. We have to have someone rescue us or we’ll be ‘next.'
Dogs’ hopeful rescuer
The ‘hugging pups’ wishes were finally answered when they were rescued by Angels Among Us Pet Rescue, which is a non-profit organisation that exclusively rescues dogs and cats from high-risk situations in Georgia, America.
A shelter worker elaborated to The Mirror:
Kala and Keira's plea for rescue was seen around the world and brought the plight of shelter dogs to the forefront of national and international media and spurred conversations across the globe.
Childhood friends, Wendy and Pam, could not ignore the hopeful faces of the dog pair when they spotted their sad story in a magazine and happily adopted them. Wendy said:
I picked up the People magazine after following the story on the hugging dogs and knew I just had to call. It just fell together. We turned out tears into smiles with these two young, playful dogs.
