1. History: The origins of the Golden Retriever are not very clear but it is believed to have been bred from several breeds like the Leonberg, the Flat-hair Retriever and the Irish Setter. It was first shown in a canine exhibition in 1909. The breed is very similar to the Labrador Retriever as they have shared ancestors. Golden Retrievers, however, have longer coats which can be flat or wavy. Their colour can range from pale cream to dark gold.
2. Behaviour: The golden retriever is very smart, but also rather independent and stubborn. They can be very affectionate, but training them requires gentleness, because they don't respond well to being told off. These dogs are also very good swimmers and adore water.
3. Appearance: They have a special undercoat that is resistant to cold, and their legs are relatively round and webbed. Their tails can also help them during swimming.
