1. Origins: The Chow-Chow originated in China and the breed was born several thousand years ago, which could perhaps make it the oldest in the world. It was used as a guard dog and hunting dog, before being exported by England in the early nineteenth century. It became popular after the 2nd World War.
2. A good watchdog: The Chow-Chow has a broad skull and a flat head, which sometimes makes it look like a bear. Its muzzle is often compared to that of the Shar Pei. It is recognisable by its very thick hair, its coat can be of different shades, his little ears, his tail back in plume on the back, and especially his blue tongue. As a general rule, the Chow-Chow is not very outgoing but can show great affection to its owners. It can also be aggressive with other dogs. He will prove to be a good guard dog and can very well live in an apartment if he is let out everyday.
