Heartbreak as a dog was cemented into the sidewalk and left to die

Despite being an adorable pup, Trooper was neglected and almost killed by his owner. The shocked passers-by found him quite literally cemented into the ground andsuffering from an array of medical conditions.

The dog was completely stuck to the sidewalk

Kindhearted strangers were shocked to come across an adorable pup who had been 'cemented' in the sidewalk and abandoned to dieby a horrid ex-owner in Florida, United States. They then contacted Tri-County Humane animal welfare charity that stepped in and saved the suffering pooch from the pavement.

The dog, which was named Trooper by its rescuers, was believed to have been stuck on the street for days as the smell was horrific and the pet was in an unbearable condition.

Tri-County Humane wrote on Facebook:

He was cemented to the ground. You read that right. Completely stuck to the sidewalk off Yamato Road for what seemed like days. He was left to die.

The charity added that while ‘shaving him down’ they noticed ‘maggots crawling from his fur’ and that his ‘overgrown nails’ and ‘terrible dental decay’ had been festering for some days.

Overwhelming support

According to Tri-County Humane, after hours of grooming, shampoo baths and tests, the vet found paralysis, heart murmur, corneal ulcers, enlarged prostate, worms, severe periodontal disease, ear infections and UTI.

The shelter commented:

There was no way a dog could have ended up like this overnight. How long was it going on? How long does he have? Did he get to us in time?

Praised for his resilience in getting through such an ordeal, Trooper got overwhelming support from the online community. A fundraiser for the pooch and the shelter that rescued him has since raised £10,200 ($12,700), covering his much-needed medical care.
