Scoop every day
This is probably the most obvious tip, but it’s easy to forget. Don’t let the waste build-up and carefully bag and bin it. Scooping daily protects both you and your kitty.
Opt for cheaper litter but change it more often
Many cat owners scoop and fill up the litter box without paying attention to the fact the bad smell accumulates at the bottom of it and makes your house’s odour uninviting.
If your pet’s waste is particularly stinky, changing all the litter every week is a much better idea. Opt for cheaper litter but get rid of it sooner.
Most major retailers offer their own line of cat litter which is more affordable than a pricier branded on. Disappointingly, even the most expensive litter with antibacterial effects and good absorption can’t stop cat faeces from smelling.
Washing the litter box is essential
Treat the litter box just like your own toilet that needs regular washing. Soak it in soapy water as soon as it’s empty, you can even get a separate toilet brush for the occasion.
Making sure the box is clean before filling it up will give the potty a fresh start, and hygiene-obsessed cats are usually grateful.
Use litter liners
Cheap and easy-to-use litter liners are an effective way to protect the box from accumulating bacteria and developing a chronic stink that can’t be washed off. It also helps to get rid of the content of the box more hygienically.
Add more boxes
If a litter box becomes stinky way too soon, add one more to spread the pressure of your fluff-ball's toilet business. It is especially important if you have more than one pet. The simple change will keep the waste less concentrated and smelly.
Mix in tea leaves
Pet Keen advises you to try out green tea leaves in your cat’s litter box. Seemingly odd, the solution is a logician one. Magic leaves have antibacterial properties and are excellent at absorbing odours. Simply dry out a few leaves, grind them up, and mix them in with the litter.
