Filmed by chance
On Thursday 4 August, two people spotted a shark near Daytona Beach. Using their drone, they tracked its movements and realised that the shark was moving north. But as it moved, the shark passed within a few feet of several beachgoers. Interviewed by Fox 35, one of the drone pilots explained:
It swam towards several people before realising they weren't food and took off. It was disconcerting to watch this, as several people have been bitten around here, but they confirm that these are usually unintentional bites.
Bathers wave at unsuspecting drone
In the pictures, the bathers can be seen waving at the drone when they see it while the shark is near their legs. Fortunately, these people were able to leave in one piece, as the shark left without taking any interest in them.
However, not all tourists are as lucky. A few miles south of Daytona Beach is New Smyrna, there is a town where shark attacks are so frequent that it is nicknamed the 'shark capital of the world'!
