Taken back and heartbroken
Lucky was first adopted from The Green County Animal Shelter of Virginia in March 2021 as a beagle mix puppy. He was beyond excited to find ‘his people’ and get a ‘real home’. Sadly, as the pooch kept growing, his family started to feel they couldn’t take care of a dog this size.
Unlucky Lucky found himself right back at the shelter, losing hope he’d ever find happiness.
Anna Swanson, the shelter's spokesperson, said:
He was scared and nervous when he first returned. Lucky wasn’t very social when he first came in with new people. He loved being outdoors, so he would sit on the outside part of his kennel.
The rescue posted a photo of the very sad pooch and shared his story.
They wrote:
Our heart hurts so much for Lucky as he is struggling to be a shelter dog once again. Over a month back at our shelter and not one single interest in you can be rough.
The charity admits they thought the pup was a beagle mix and would stay a medium size dog. But he has grown to be more of a hound mix.
In an emotional plea, they asked Facebook users to help the ‘struggling’ dog find the love of a forever family.
The rescue added:
Lucky is truly a big sweetheart and thinks he is a lap dog. Please take time to share this handsome hound.
A loving home at last
After getting over three thousand shares on Facebook, the heartbreaking tale of Lucky, the saddest dog on the Internet, found its way to the right screens. The pooch finally started to get some attention. Within days, Lucky’s forever family walked into the shelter and adopted him.
The delighted shelter staff shared happy news online:
Lucky is one very lucky boy! He found his new forever family today! All it took was for one family to fall in love.
The now-famous beagle will never have to worry about staying in a shelter again. Lucky is definitely lucky this time.
