Johnny and Phoenix were caught up in a devastating war in Ukraine and both sustained deadly injuries. They were saved by Breaking the Chains, a UK-based animal rescue group but, sadly, were left unable to use their legs. The dedicated carers didn’t give up on the four-legged survivors and had a great idea instead. The pups couldn’t walk but they could roll. They are now well and ready for adoption.

They miraculously survived
According to Breaking the Chains, Johnny came to them after he had been shot by Russian soldiers. The injuries left him paralysed in his back legs. But the resilient pooch was determined to live and crawled around a mile to safety. When one of the rescue's team members received a call about Johnny, he and his colleague embarked on a 22-hour round trip drive to bring the pup to the shelter.
Phoenix was rescued after losing both his rear paws and 3/4 of his front left paw during a rocket strike in Ukraine. The charity writes on Facebook that this ‘special, happy and loving dog’ fought hard to live.
Thanks to the dedication and care of Breaking the Chains, Johnny and Phoenix survived. They were provided with much-needed medical attention, shelter, and love. Sadly, their injuries left the pups unable to move around independently.
Wheels instead of legs
After helping the incredible pets heal, the rescue team wanted to help them gain more independence too, People writes. They came to a brilliant idea.
They contacted a US-based pet mobility company, Walkin' Pets, to inquire about wheelchairs for the ‘boys’. They were beyond happy to find out that the generous business would gladly donate one to each pooch.
This means Johnny and Phoenix were on the way to regain their canine independence.
The pups took to the fancy wheels quickly which made them ready for loving forever homes. Their rescuers have no doubt that they'll make amazing pet.
The future pet parents should be prepared to provide the pooches with extra assistance as they continue to recover from their injuries and learn to navigate the world with their wheelchairs.
More help is needed
According to Breaking the Chains, there are many more pets like Johnny and Phoenix in desperate need of help.
They write:
Please continue to show us your support so we can fight alongside these incredible animals who are so desperate to live the incredible life they deserve.
